Ubuntu Jaunty trashes my laptop harddrive

My Toshiba Satellite's harddrive crashed yesterday. This happened immediately after installing the 64 bit version of Ubuntu Jaunty during the reboot. I chose to format the linux partition using ext4. There were two other partitions on the drive i.e. vista and xp. Thank goodness for svn :)
